For several years, Mary Coble has collected used crack bags and lighters on walks throughout various neighborhoods in Washington, DC. Her archive of these discarded objects points to issues of abuse, addiction, poverty, violence and racism in the city. Now, a selection of items from the archive are singled out and presented on large photographic banners around Odense.

Smokey Mountain

Notorious for danger and health risks Smokey Mountain landfill covers an area of some hundred acres. 3000 people work here. Fires smoulder below, and the overpowering, acrid odour of smoky fumes gives the place its name.

Dreaming in the Land of Birches

Lucia Ganieva, Winner of The FotoTriennale.dk Award 2009

In 2010 Lucia Ganieva travelled to Udmurtia, an area in the middle of Russia, some 1500 kilometres North East of Moscow. The Udmurtians form a small yet unique ethnic group with their own language, with common roots in Finnish and Hungarian, and they have a strong affinity with nature.

Permanent Error

During 2009-2010 Pieter Hugo photographed the people and the landscape of an expansive garbage dump on the outskirts of a slum known as Agbogbloshie in Ghana. In a special area of the dump electronic equipment was constantly being burnt.

Children of the New Age

'Children of the New Age' is a documentary about new spiritualism and the New Age movement. The protagonists are Kristoffer, an 11-year old boy, and his mother, Chalotte. Chalotte believes that her son is a so-called "Indigo child". These children supposedly emit a special colour, indigo, in their auras, hence the name, and are thought to be ‘miracle children’ with special abilities.

In December 2008 it was finally over, when after 161 years on Valby Hill Carlsberg moved its production out of Copenhagen. 'The King of India and all the others from the brewery in Valby' is an exhibition of portraits and moods from a time capsule of Danish industrial culture which until just a few years back was everyday life for a hundred and one brewery workers.

Anonymization

All across the world a uniform, homogeneous model of development, inspired by Los Angeles style urban sprawl – consisting of massive freeways, parking lots, shopping malls and large-scale master-planned communities with golf courses – is being stamped onto the earth’s topography. With this anonymous type of development not only comes the destruction of the environment, but also a loss of culture and roots, as well as alienation.
